What is Psychological Safety?

Research has demonstrated that psychological safety is critical for high-performance teams. If you do not feel safe in a group, you are more likely to keep ideas to yourself and avoid speaking up, even about critical risks. Furthermore, if mistakes are consistently held against you, you then prioritize avoiding making mistakes and stop taking risks rather than making the most out of your talents. Low psychological safety, therefore, hurts team performance, innovation, learning, and personal success.

For you to be successful in your team, and as a team, psychological safety is the key enabler. This insight is the result of three decades of research by Dr, Amy Edmondson (Harvard University) and an extensive two-year research program (Project Aristotle) among 15,000 employees at Google.

The Leadership Coach Group can conduct a psychological safety scan to help your team improve in critical areas.
